The FBF is an innovative, imaginative and exciting organisation with a track record for youth development through music and dance, outside of the formal education sector. It is extremely well placed to contribute to moving South Africa forward decisively towards the eradication of poverty and underdevelopment. It takes care to enhance the process of social cohesion, moral regeneration and gender equality. Using the vital role that arts play in social inclusion and development the Foundation has extraordinary success.
Our target group remain disadvantaged communities where unemployment is high and access to youth educational activities is limited. The average rate of unemployment of the parents of our members is 61.05%. Our members come from households where 43.7% live with both parents and 56.3% with single parents/grandparents or guardians. Our members’ average age is 14.5 years old and 92% had not had access to music/arts education before they joined the FBF. The Foundation presently has 3548 members from 272 schools in 116 townships and 48.57% are males and 51.42% are female. |
