FBF ACADEMY: SUMMARY

INTRODUCTION
THE FBF Academy will aim to address the low levels of skills in the economically and socially challenged areas in South Africa and the FBF intends to establish a learning centre which will bridge the gap between schooling and possible tertiary study but also generally raise the levels of functionality of our tutors and staff to a level where they can become self-sustaining.

MOTIVATION
Qualification levels of our staff and volunteers are low so tertiary institutions mostly cannot be accessed and the requirements for a good projects officer covers a very wide spectrum, so specialised courses at learning institutions are not suitable. The FBF needs to address this to expand successfully and deliver in a meaningful way to the communities we serve.

Most of our members do not have the financial resources to study so if we have to support the training we can make sure that it is exactly what is required, whilst at the same time, serve as a bridging option for those who are able to continue their studies at a tertiary institution.

Address the artistic (music and dance) and general skills development of all tutors in the FBF to ensure a higher level of delivery to the community and enable members to access the growing entertainment industry.

It is essential to raise the overall level of competence through training for all volunteers and employees of the FBF.This training should be available and compulsory to all old and new FBF volunteers and employees and through this training provide the FBF with employees and volunteers who can ensure its maximum growth successfully.

Grow the FBF projects countrywide to establish a successful youth movement which can act as a catalyst for youth development, moral regeneration, social cohesion and raise skills levels. Success will revitalise the entire tourism, arts and entertainment industries and provide a very positive way forward for those caught in the cycle of poverty

THE CONCEPT: THE FIELD BAND FOUNDATION ACADEMY

  • Each participant should be evaluated beforehand and the training that each individual receives, should be specific to their needs – levelling up.
  • It is possible that not all participants need to receive training in all elements but in reality most will probably need all the modules.
  • Training modules should be able to cater for different entry levels – some should start at school level - education of the intended participants vary considerably. This will be a real challenge  e.g. some participants are able to speak English well, whilst others have not lived in a society where it is possible to speak English regularly, so have low levels of competency. Writing has been generally poor irrespective of educational background.
  • The language of preference for all courses will be English as the FBF has many international relationships and if participants want to benefit from these relationships they have to be able to communicate in English.
  • Accreditation of all courses and materials essential.
